School Activities at Alder Ridge Montessori School

School activities at Alder Ridge Montessori School are a priority for us, as it’s a way our students learn the most.

Before school consists of activities such as free play, story time and creative time. Circle consists of stories, songs, literacy, music & dance, grace & courtesies. Independent work time consists of individual presentations or small group presentations. During this period, children are free to choose materials that promote self-esteem, independence, fine and gross motor activities, literacy activities, math, sensory and science concepts, as well as art activities.

Below are some of the activities and their objectives that we have recently implemented with our students!

 

Subject: Culture

  • Activity: The Coloured Globe
  • Objective: Introducing the terms “-land and water masses”, “continent””, “ocean”, “equator”, “North Pole”, “South Pole”.

  • Activity: Coloured Bead Stairs
  • Objective: Developing a child’s numerical understanding of the number 1-9.

  • Activity: Water Painting
  • Objective: Developing eye hand coordination, use of imagination and refinement of muscle movement, concentration and independence.

  • Activity: Pink Picture Word Cards
  • Objective: Promotes matching skills, introduces three-letter phonetic words, and increases vocabulary.

Subject: Practical Life

  • Objective: To help develop fine motor skills and pincer grip, and reinforce hand-eye coordination.

  • Objective: Reinforcing the concept of “Zero” and its symbol and the natural sequence of numerals
